Welcome to the Ice Buster.
Your best friend in the fight against ice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does it work?
A: Set it on the line, wheel it along, and the roller will shear off the ice. For heavier ice, rotate the stick until the sidewalls of the Ice Buster meet the line, and wheel it along like before. The added friction will help finish the job.
Q: Where did you get the idea?
A: Out of necessity! The idea came from having to run a string and dolly all the time through the ditches. From beating on icy wires. From wearing out hot sticks – and myself. After endless hours of fatigue and exertion I just kept thinking, there's got to be a better way. So I put my imagination to work and here we are.
Q: Is this invention patented?
A: Yes! United States Patent No. 8298343.
Q: Where is it made?
A: It's created right here in the United States. All steps of production – from invention to manufacturing – have taken place in east central Illinois.
Q: How extensive was your testing?
A: It's been tested in almost all conditions where ice can occur. We've tried varying thicknesses of ice and wire, in varying temperatures, down to and including 0º F, during the last three years. We're professionals trained to work in extreme conditions, and we believe the Ice Buster reflects our expertise earned after decades of real-world experience.
Q: Why aren’t you wearing a hard hat in the video?
A: Our video was made for demonstration purposes on a dummy span (meaning it was not energized) in a controlled setting in order to show you how effectively the Ice Buster works on accumulated ice. Whenever we use the product on actual conductor in the workfield, we adhere to the strictest standards of safety and conduct just as you do every day. We strongly recommend you treat the Ice Buster like any other tool you carry and follow your company’s and the law’s safety requirements whenever it’s in use.
NEW! Q: Your site reports the Ice Buster can now handle sizes up to .556ACSR. Is it the same model as before or have you made some changes?
A: It’s the same great Ice Buster. During product development we didn’t have access to larger sizes of wire, like .556ACSR for example, to try. Because we value your trust, we were advertising its utility on the largest size of wire successfully tested. Recently we’ve had the opportunity to test the Ice Buster on even larger wire. We are proud to report it passed the test with flying colors! If you deal with even larger sizes and you’re interested in deploying the Ice Buster in your work area,
please get in touch.
Q: I’ve tried to call but I just can’t seem to get a hold of you! What gives?
A: We know, and we’re very sorry. We were most likely doing line work away from the phone. Please bear with us, leave a voicemail, and we promise to get back to you as soon as humanly possible.
Or, you can contact us through the website.Q: I'm not a lineman. Can I buy one?
A: Sorry, the Ice Buster is designed for professionally-trained personnel only. At this time we limit sales only to qualified personnel (linemen, utility companies, etc.). Thanks for your interest!
